N. MuralidharanN. Muralidharan, 44, is a pastmaster in grabbing back lost opportunities. The new managing director (South Asia operations) of the database management firm, Informix, is now rearing to regain the company's slipping market share in the region. "We have to be extremely aggressive and carve an exclusive niche for ourselves as we move along," Muralidharan pronounces as he plans to redefine Informix as the leader in OLTP, data warehousing, and Web/E-Commerce applications. He hopes to achieve this by signing up new business partners in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Education is another thrust area, and, sensing the demand for Informix-trained professionals, he has already roped in AFL Infotech in Mumbai, Natsoft in Hyderabad and another centre in Sri Lanka. "The turnaround at Informix will not be an impossible task as we are the only data warehousing company with live sites to demonstrate," Muralidharan says. But before the company dons the new garb, the MD's priority is to win back the customer.

Ajmal Noorani, a Mastech veteran, has been named vice president of the company's E-business practice. Noorani has more than 14 years' experience in the IT services industry. Mastech has also named Raj Rao, former president of Bratch Innovation, a leading Net strategy and services firm, as director, E-business. Fredy Cheung

Cisco Systems Inc. has appointed Fredy Cheung as director of channels in Greater Asia. In his new role, Cheung will develop and implement the company's overall channel strategy in the region, working closely with Cisco Systems' field operations channel team. Cheung was earlier with 3Com for over six years where he played an instrumental part in building its channel strategy across Asia.

Harshad Shah

Harshad Shah has been inducted as executive director on the board of Aptech Ltd. A chartered accountant by profession, Shah brings with him 22 years of experience in the areas of finance, taxation, audits and information systems management. His current responsibilities include management services, finance and accounting functions.

Claude LiotBetter known as the 'magic wand' manager of Alcatel, Claude Liot is the new regional service director for Alcatel Asia Pacific. In his current job, Liot will be responsible for the all-in-one Alcatel Service. Liot joined Alcatel, France, 27 years ago as project manager for large projects. He has also worked in Latin America, Central Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific.

Polaris Software Lab Ltd has inducted former Maruti Udyog chairman and managing director R.C. Bhargava on its board of directors. With this, the number of members on the company's board has risen to eight. Other members include Satya Pal, a telecom expert and former chairman, MTNL and M.L. Garg, former chairman Trade Development Authority.
