Networking Master

Anil BatraIf you were looking for the true essence of networking, access Cisco (Anil) Batra. The country manager, India & SAARC region, Cisco, has all the easy answers. "Networking is all about information access and making it available to all levels of people-from employees to CEOs to partners and suppliers" he says. "It is not about fast computation or creating databases but accessing the information available." The 23-year industry veteran who joined Cisco in 1995, has applied the logic of fast computation to propel Cisco's 100 percent growth in India. And now, Cisco has announced a fully owned subsidiary (with Batra as managing director, naturally), a global R&D centre at Bangalore and $20 million investment in the next one year. Batra finds the expansion timely. "The proliferation of the networked economy has spawned fundamental changes in how corporations conduct business. The reduction in leased line tariff is leading companies to connect their remote offices."
