The SAPphire Paragon.

Rokiah AhmedThat in her two-and-a-half year tenure in India, the German ERP leader SAP AG cornered a 60 percent share of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) package market, was "not a very significant achievement" for Rokiah Ahamed. After joining SAP Asia in early 1995 as country manager for India, with responsibility of setting up new operations in China, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Taiwan, she was later promoted as executive vice president for South West Asia in end-1996. For the sales-savvy executive with prior experience in IBM, Marcam and J.D. Edwards, the challenges are surfacing now. On the top of her to-do-list is capturing the small and medium enterprises market in India, where reportedly SAP has 30 percent share. Also tackle training and time of implementation. Corporate houses don't embrace ERP as they do Windows 95, says Ahamed, and so identified manufacturing, oil, gas, banking and finance, utilities, and telecom as initial targets. With installation bases now well over 100, her strategy apparently paid off. For those who complain about long implementation time of SAP R/3, she mentions Tata Ryerson and Cadbury, where the whole process took 80-90 days. That's sound infostructure.
