Vishwesh Padmanabhan, vice president, software marketing and solution developer marketing, IBM India Ltd.Spearheading the changing face of business is Vishwesh Padmanabhan, vice president, software marketing and solution developer marketing, IBM India Ltd. "It's a face that is changing faster than we think. Today, Indian businesses are poised on the edge of change. On the nodes of transition, IBM will be a part of this change." To bring into the Indian business scenario, Padmanabhan has been responsible for overall strengthening of IBM's software operations in the country. He has been the chief architect behind the creation of the company's E-business software centre, which was recently set up in Gurgaon near Delhi. Only the second such IBM facility in the world after China, the centre provides end-to-end sales services such as implementation planning, solution architecture, application design and development, deployment and training. It will also offer services like technical consultation, concept and technical presentations. A graduate in commerce and law from the University of South Australia, Padmanabhan has also done MBA in Public Administration. Joining IBM in 1984 in Sydney, he has held various sales and marketing positions in the company. He began with the banking and finance group of IBM Australia and was responsible for business in New South Wales. He was on the core team that set up IBM software marketing in Australia. As for his mandate for India, he says, "Marketing will be stepped up for IBM's software offerings, which include DB2, Lotus, Tivoli, MQ Series and a range of Internet software. Also, the two select IBM centres in India-the IBM Solutions Research Centre in New Delhi and the Solutions Partnership Centre (SPC) in Bangalore-will participate in path-breaking research projects for the company world-wide."

Partha IyengarAs the country manager (India) for the Gartner Group, Partha Iyengar has discovered the new mantra for success: "Leveraging IT for business advantage." Under his leadership, the Gartner Group has an established clientele all over the country and provides standard research programmes as well as strategic advise and information on various initiatives like ERP/enterprise applications, networking, E-business, Internet/intranet, large systems and hardware, data warehousing and knowledge management. He says, "In the new connected economy, an organisation's success depends on its ability to adapt to constant changes in the business world where the rules of business change as quickly as they are created. The ability to make timely decisions could make the difference between an organisation's success or failure." It is with this alarming alertness and keeping up with changing business scenarios that Iyengar has been instrumental in establishing Gartner's operations in India. Earlier, he was director of applications development, Gartner Group's internal IT organisation, at its headquarter in Stamford, USA. While in the US, he held a number of technical and managerial posts at major corporations, including James River Corp. and UNC Aerospace.

Vijay JhindalVijay Jhindal has been appointed as the chairman of Vital Communications Ltd, a leading integrated E-business solutions company based in Delhi. He is a chartered accountant and a law graduate who gradually forayed into the infotech sector. He possesses a foresight to understand the emerging technology and the emerging trends. It is his foresight which transformed the communications company into an integrated E-business solutions company which include high-tech process software solutions, Web-designing and development of portals. He is into strategy development, structuring of collaborations and finalisation of MOU/agreements. He is also on the board of directors of a number of companies.

U. Lakshmi NarayanaLanco Net Ltd, a Hyderabad-based core sector company now focussed on IT and Internet solutions, has appointed U. Lakshmi Narayana as the vice president (E-strategies). In the capacity of software consultant in the USA, Narayana worked with a diverse range of IT and non-IT Fortune 500 companies, honing his range and depth of knowledge in various areas.

Arvind DhariyalArvind Dhariyal has joined IT&T Ltd as vice president (technical and operations), Net ManageIT, IT&T's Web call centre operations. He is an MBA from the International Institute of Management Sciences, Calcutta, and has a B.E. degree from the University of Roorkee. He has also done M.Tech from IIT, Delhi. He has a total experience of over 22 years in telecom and electronics industries. Earlier, he was heading the technical operations of Modi Korea Telecom, a leading paging company.

Bangalore-based Tenet India Pvt. Ltd has announced the appointment of S. Mohan as chief operating officer. He would be based at Tenet's headquarters in Bangalore. He has more than 17 years of experience in telecom technologies and business development. He has held key positions in ISRO, C-DOT and Wipro. His last assignment was with Wipro Technologies as a business development manager, where he contributed towards the growth of telecom business.

S. Narayanan S. Narayanan is already credited for setting up one of the country's leading networking companies. "MRO-TEK is one of the few Indian companies with a focus on solutions for data communications and Internet access," he says. As the chairman and managing director, he has unveiled a major expansion programme. "This plan involves expansion of manufacturing facilities at Electronic City, Bangalore, creation of additional marketing facilities and setting up new corporate office in Bangalore, augmenting long-term working capital resources, contingencies and issue expenses." In fact, it was recognising the market potential for these products that Narayanan emphasised on setting up manufacturing facilities at the Electronics City. Today, the manufacturing facilities are geared to provide communications products that meet stringent industry standards.
