Sun Microsystems India has signed a distributor agreement with Hitachi Data Systems, a subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd, to deliver the former's products and technologies to Indian enterprise customers. "Customers in the high-end storage market in India can now avail of our products, technologies and services," said Bhaskar Pramanik, managing director, Sun Microsystems India Pvt. Ltd.

Cisco Systems has launched its new IP telephony solution in the country. The solution follows a specification by the Telecommunications Engineering Centre (TEC) of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for IP-based PABX. The Interface Approval Certificate from the TEC makes it legal for the approved IP-based products to be connected directly to the BSNL network to carry voice traffic from an internal enterprise PABX to any place in the world.

Singapore-based BeXcom Pte. Ltd, a leading business software solutions provider, has signed an agreement with Global Groupware Solutions Ltd for the implementation of the latter's customer realtionship management (CRM) solution 'Smiles' in Singapore and its subsidiaries across China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand and Malaysia.

MRO-TEK Ltd, a networking services provider, has opened its office in Delhi. The facility will support the firm's marketing plans and provide service and support to customers across northern and eastern India. S. Narayanan, chairman and managing director, MRO-TEK, said, "With the opening of the office the lead-time to provide services and support to our customers will reduce drastically in the regions."

Microsoft Corp. has selected i-flex Solution Ltd and NIIT to represent India in the worldwide .Net partnership programme christened "First Wave". The programme includes 70 companies from various countries and has been created to help independent software vendors and customers develop solutions using Visual Studio.Net, the next version of Microsoft's developer tools suite.

Red Hat, a leading open source platform-based solutions provider, has entered into an alliance with Software Technology Group (STG) to promote education on Linux in the country. Under the partnership, STG will offer training on the Linux platform at 125 STG centres spread all over India.

Bangalore-based Indo-Fuji Information Technologies Pvt. Ltd, a partner of Fujitsu, Japan, has tied-up with Tata Infotech Ltd as its implementation partner, and with India Satcom Ltd as its marketing partner for its System Walker, an enterprise system management software solution. The solution is built on the concept of policy-based system management and would cater to end-to-end system management requirements.

Nucleus Software Exports Ltd, a provider of banking automation software solutions, has set up a fully-owned subsidiary in Japan. "The setting up of this subsidiary is a reflection of our commitment to our customers in terms of making available our latest products, services and support at a short notice," said Vishnu Dusad, managing director, Nucleus.

Tivoli Systems Inc., an IBM arm, has partnered with DishnetDSL to provide enterprise systems management (ESM) solutions to monitor network, and manage server and operating systems for the latter. Tivoli's ESM solution would cover DishnetDSL's infrastructure spanning over 42 cities in more than 200 locations, providing the company with centralised control for its core technology resources.

APC India Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Power Conversion, has unveiled its regional office in Delhi to handle the demand for products and services relating to power protection for the whole northern region. "With this new office we will be able to provide our customer in north India with sales and service support consistent with our objective of providing customers better access in the minimal possible time," said Bill Thayer, general manager, Asia-Pacific, APC.

Hewlett-Packard India has launched "Trade in Trade up", a programme to expand the LaserJet market. The programme enables HP Laserjet users to exchange their old printer for the latest HP Laserjet models in mid- and high-end range at discounts up to Rs 1 lakh. "The initiative provides a host of advantages to the customer like lower cost of ownership, increased productivity and technology at affordable prices," said Nitin Hiranandani, country business manager, Imaging and Printing Systems, Hewlett-Packard India.
