In Retrospect-Neeraj Goswami

Neeraj Goswami's vision is represented by a series of characters obscured by a misty veil. These are men and women immersed in their thoughts, lips gently parted, eyes half-closed like sleep walkers lost in their own little worlds. The figures are firmly drawn, giving them a vitality that belies their dream-like, other-world existence.

Tribute to Mother Teresa-Exhibition of Paintings and Sculptures
(Art Indus, Delhi; November 14-29)

Among the many tributes be-ing paid to the Mother, here's one that is as good as it promises. The paintings and sculptures on show -- by artists ranging from M.F. Husain and Sunil Das to Robin David and Rahul Arya -- rise above the label of mere portraits.

El-Tanoura Dance Company
(FICCI Auditorium, Delhi; November 26)

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the Embassy of Egypt collaborate to bring to India the visual treat that is El-Tanoura. The troupe's dances are replete with philosophical nuances and religious symbolism, all accompanied by traditional Egyptian musical instruments such as the rababa, el-sallamia, el-mozmar and el-mazahar.

Mozart in D Minor

Set up to promote western classical music in India, Vee starts off with five interesting titles. This one, the first, is devoted to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The entire set includes other geniuses -- Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Bach and Dvorak.

International Film Festival for Children and Young People

The international film festival for Children and Young People, (i'cyp) has found a home. With the Golden Jubilee National Children's Films Complex being set up in Hyderabad, production of children's films will surely get a boost. Couldn't have been more timely since the 10th i'cyp had only two Indian entries. Some foreign films more than made up though.

International Sports Goods, Health and Fitness Exhibition

The idea behind ISFE '97, say the organisers, is to facilitate interaction between Indian sports-goods manufacturers and their counterparts in the developed world. The laity could also drop by to check out what's being offered by companies from Ludhiana to Germany, Taiwan and the UK.
