q&a: Aria: Packaged Deal
The music industry's penchant for packaging
has spawned mostly sunk-without-a-trace groups. After all-girl acts comes aria, India's
first equal-mix pop act from Milestone Entertainement. They ran into ROBIN ABREU in Mumbai. Aria? What
kind of name is that?
It's Greek for melody, an expression of
power and passion. Aria is also Arasha (A), Reshab (R), Ishaan (I) and Arpana (A), the
four members of the group.
Cute. You have a woman in the band. Is that such a
big deal?
Look harder. We have two women in the band which makes it a much bigger deal.
What's this new sound your music company is going
on about?
It is the coming together of four people with intense synergy and love for music in order
to create a blend of contemporary and inspirational music.
Do you guys talk English or Press Release? What's
so unique about you?
We're India's first mixed group. The production house conceptualised the album before the
four of us came on board. We auditioned from among 300 other people and here we are.
So you're a package deal. What music are you trying
to sell?
We're trying to sell music that people want to buy. The group draws inspiration from
Latino, western classical, rock and most important, popular Hindi music.
If you don't sell will you change the name of the
group?
No question of changing our name.
We'll see. |
