Asha Bhosle

because she was reborn, remade, remixed.

Asha Bhosle Pic: Gautam Rajadhyaksha

"The fact that I get an MTV award at 64 rejuvenates my singing spirit."

Rarely has the world of music seen a fairy tale career of a singer who has held her space and appeal through five decades. Asha Bhosle started singing as a shy teenager, a year before Independence and today, 50 years later, teenyboppers are discovering a new pop icon. If success earlier came with 1960s melodies like Piya tu ab to aaja, 1997's mega hit Janam samjha karo vibed with today's teens. The genres changed but the music, like the singer, is the same: perky, impetuous, from the soul.
