ART
Paintings, Drawings and Water-Colours:

(Vision -- THe Centre of Art, Delhi; July 1-24)

Close attention to de-tail, subdued pastel shades and graceful lines -- these are inherent qualities that reflect the Bengal School. Highlighting these subtle nuances are the works of well-known artists like Jamini Roy, Nandlal Bose, Benodbihari Mukherjee and sculptures by Ramkinkar Baij. Definitely worth a visit.

MUSIC
Meerbai

(Pen Audio; Set of three Cassettes, Rs 90)

With pretty passable musical arrangements by Mohinderjit Singh, this compilation features 14 traditional Meera bhajans and a few others written by K. Shailendra and Kiran Mishra. Voices like Kavita Krishnamurthy's and Sandhya Rao's lend a soulful touch. Some of the bhajans like Palak na lage meri and Ae ri main to prem diwani are soothing to the ear. Essentially for the religiously inclined.

ODD ENDS
The Bookmark

(Delhi)

This new bookshop in South Extension I opens on July 5. It promises tasteful interiors in "white cedar, teak and marble" and will initially cover 3,500 sq ft over two floors. It will also house a cafe where bibliophiles can munch a sandwich and drink coffee between books.
