Dirty Talk

Urmila MatondkarMamta KulkarniAnd so the war goes on ... Remember Mamta Kulkarni was chucked out of China Gate last year? Remember the rumour that she used her underworld links to make director Raj Kumar Santoshi take her back? Now Kulkarni is incensed at the film's publicity being lavished on Urmila Matondkar's guest appearance. "Santoshi's the dirtiest man I've ever met. He has done this because I refused to sleep with him," she fumes, adding, "Not all girls have principles like I do." Santoshi's response: "This just shows her mentality." Ouch. "It's below my dignity to comment," says Matondkar. Double ouch.

Diya Singh (right) Kunwar Narendra Singh and Padmini DeviPeace At Last

Wild elephants could not do what this little baby did. When Princess Diya Singh (right) of Jaipur had a son this July, the palace was unmoved. Hmm, Diya's marriage to Kunwar Narendra Singh had drawn an equally cold response at first: you see, he's a "common man". Shocked? Take heart. Peace has now been made, with His Highness Bhawani Singh and Maharani Padmini Devi throwing a huge party for the little one, who's also getting two marble elephants in his honour at the palace gates. "We're delighted," says his dad. As for the rest, they're maintaining a regal silence.

Tough Act to Follow

Hema Malini and Esha DeolHer parents were the hottest screen pair of their time. Esha Deol's quite a sizzler herself. At 16, with Hema Malini and Dharmendra's genes to her credit, Esha has made her stage debut. It's not what you're expecting. Not a play, but an Odissi performance last week. "She danced with grace, but she has a long way to go," says mama Hema. As for acting, mom thinks "the time is right. I made my debut at 16", but "Dharamji might not approve of her joining films". Why? Isn't it his profession too?

She and I

Juliana Andrews and Gemini GanesanGreat way to avoid the press! Still recovering from the media barbs on their recent marriage, Tamil film legend Gemini Ganesan and Juliana Andrews have announced another joint venture: a TV serial called Appadiye Aakattum (Let it be so). So? Well, he happens to be 79, Rekha's dad, and a fourth-time groom; she's 35; and for the record, Gemini's first wife is still alive. The couple's not saying much, but we snatched this gem from Gemini: "If Nelson Mandela can marry at 82, why not I?" He's even three years younger!
