Birmingham Boys By the time Brit-reggae-pop band UB40 got to the
Andheri stadium for a 90-minute gig last week, the 15,000-strong audience was close to
exploding-MTV veejays Cyrus Broacha and Maria Goretti had already been booed off. But the
boys from Birmingham got things moving with hits like Red, red wine and Can't help falling
in love with you, despite a stage that was so low only a few hundred in front could see
anything. The crowd stuck it through, all yells and appreciation for old hits from the
fading band. "Bombay reminds me of Birmingham," frontman Ali Campbell said
later. They stick it out there as well.
