STACK UP
Mumbai pubs: a few happen, most
happened
The Fashion Bistro: The remodelled studio is
the top of the glam heap. Model hangout. Gimmicks like fashion shows, celeb bartending and
deejaying, cocktail making competitions keeps it going as the tres trendy place. If you
are, you're there. Downside is that post 10 pm, there's too much remix, too many dolled up
types. Relax people, this isn't the ramp, it's R&R.Ghetto: The ultimate watering hole for the 30-plus yuppie with a
penchant for rocking and rolling. A civilised place. Was. Now, teeny-boppers have taken
over, while the older crowd has more or less shifted to Geoffrey's at Marine Plaza to hob
with NRI nobs. While the crowds have changed, the music hasn't. It would help, though, to
track into more variety; rock is plentiful.
Copa
Cabana: Copa to friends, though not too many of those around thanks to the
pre-midnight liquor curfew. While that applies to all pubs, Copa, the salsa stop, is
probably hit the hardest; it used to be the last address before hitting the sack. Has gone
from incredibly crowded and incredibly happening to middling. Its competition, Three
Flights Up, is -- believe it -- even worse off.
Razzberry Rhinoceros:
The belly of suburbia used to be cool, but sometimes so full of the sweet-smelling smoke
and crack-jacks that it seemed like the hip underbelly. Okay, that's too exaggerated, and
a lot of it was fun -- J-49, a similar dive, still is. But Bandra's statement with techno
beats and trance nights might now become a banquet hall. RIP.
Twice As Nice: The
restaurant which turns into a pub, hence the name, and hence the buzz which billed it as
the hottest place in the suburbs, in Dadar. This is turning out to be another
used-to-be-great place. The once hopping dance floor now has tables on it, a sign of the
times. Maybe they should call it Once Was Enough. |
