About Us

MUSIC
Jogiya Khalli Balli--Bhupi

(Magnasound, Rs 40)

Yet Another Daler clone who's no way close to giving the Rs 2.75 crore artiste a run for his money. A racy Punjabi pop album, this typical balle balle tape is fine to dance to at discotheques. Other than this one plus point, it's nothing to write home about.

Super Duper 1998 -- Vol I
(HMV, Rs 60)

A compilation of the Hindi film songs that have made it big this year. Cute, catchy numbers like O oh jaane jaana, Ek shararat hone ko hai, and Are re are from different films make for pretty peppy listening. Essentially, the tunes are all in the same league -- romantic. Sweet lyrics, great music, excellent digital sound. Worth buying.

Aashiqon Ko Jalana Buri Baat Hai
(Venus, Rs 35)

An excruciating cacophony of four qawwalis -- this cassette is next to impossible to listen to. Badar Ali Khan's screechy voice is painful to the ear. The music -- composed and arranged by Baba Varma -- is jarring. This is one tape even a qawwali lover would be sensible enough not to pick up.

MOVIE
Major Saab

(Directed by tinnu Anand : Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgun and Sonali Bendre)

The Indian Army has been objecting to this set-in-NDA saga and Bachchan's been justifying factual errors saying it's only a movie. An army major and several cadets spend their time trying to unite two lovers. The script is full of loopholes. The Big B is angry -- nothing new. Devgan is sincere and Bendre insipid. Waste of talent.

ODD ENDS
Crossword

(Pune)

After enticing book freaks in Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad, Crossword now lands up in Pune. Book signings, debates, free home delivery, 5,000 sq ft of air-conditioned space, 25,000 titles -- the works. These are all on the cards in what promises to be Pune's largest bookstore.
