ART Nirguna Saguna (With or Without Attributes): Nomadic yet, this new gallery has started off with a bang with fairly conceptual
work?installations, paintings, videos and sculptures?by artists from India, the US and
Italy. At times witty and subversive, many of these works are a comment on the wages of
progress. Navyug Show--Suman Roy, Partho Shaw and Dipankar Dasgupta: An apt title, since this trio are the sons of eminent Bengali artists Suhas Roy, Lalu Prasad Shaw and Dharmanarayanan Dasgupta. Happens to be their first show in Delhi. Step in to see what the new generation has to offer. MOVIE The Fifth Element: Brucie boy is in a different element in this movie. Of course he is bashing up all the bad guys from start to finish, but unlike his other films, here he prophesies (in the Die Hard series he remembers the past). And what does Muscleman have to say? That evil forces will destroy the world. The rest is the usual dishum-dishum stuff and a bag of scientific tricks. Average. MUSIC Double Bass--Jean-Luc Ponthieux Quintet: Alliance Francaise and ICCR are bringing to India one of the best in European contemporary jazz, The Jean-Luc Ponthieux Quintet. Double Bass is Ponthieux's first recording under his own name. One more thing: as a tribute to 50 years of Indian Independence, the quintet will also play Orient, a piece specially created for the occasion. The Magic of Christmas: Just what you need to get into the festive mood. Wonderful new versions of the best Christmas carols, including Silent Night, We Wish You A Merry Christmas and Drummer Boy. And don't miss Jingle Bell Rock. Good singing and great music. Strikes a chord and sets you swinging. ODD ENDS Rock 'N' Bowl: This is bowling with a difference?luminous pins, glow-in-the-dark balls, accompanied by a whole snazzy set-up at this "family entertainment centre" close to Delhi. Cost: Rs 100-Rs 125 for a game. It's addictive, what more do we say? |
