It's
their War Too
Chandigarh
Neetika Poonia, a young dentist, came to the Command
Hospital one morning with a very pertinent request. She wanted to help the injured
soldiers by writing out their letters to their families. "It's a small way to share
their pain," says Poonia who visits the battle casualty wards each evening.
"What they tell me to write is sheer patriotism and courage." The gesture is not
lost on the jawans. "It calms our nerves," says sepoy Surinder Singh who lost an
arm and a leg in battle.
