It's
their War Too
Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh
For 31-year-old S.B. Rangaraju, who tried unsuccessfully to
join the army on three occasions, patriotism goes well with idli. A roadside vendor, he
imposed a Rs 5 surcharge on each plate of idli one day and donated the entire Rs 1,265 to
the Army Welfare Fund. "It was my wife's idea but I did not force anyone," he
says. He now proudly displays a photocopy of the bank draft. It also serves as an
inducement to customers to give more.
