What's Taboo for Tabu
TabuThere's such a thing as being taken too seriously. At least Tabu thinks so. The svelte sizzler of Ruk ruk ruk fame, who evolved into a National-Award-winning artiste with Maachis, is now opting for a sexy look. "I've been typecast as a serious actress," she moans. And since talent doesn't translate into movies or moolah for a Bollywood heroine, she's shedding the old image along with several inches of clothing. Sometimes, when it comes to garments, less is more.

Chai for Chi Chi

Priyanka GandhiGovindaChhote miyan was in Delhi the other day. Not to see the queen, but reportedly to meet the Congress party's uncrowned princess. Turns out Priyanka Gandhi is a Govinda fan. Turns out he was invited to tea, not at her home, but at 10 Janpath. But no comments from the star. "Chi Chi bhaiya doesn't want to invite trouble," says a family member. "He's worried about what Maharashtra's first family will think." You know, he was the hero of Smita Thackeray's Haseena Maan Jayegi and all that. Gandhis just aren't part of the Thackeray script, right?

Star of the East

SumanJoining the hallowed circle that includes Shabana Azmi and Amrish Puri, Suman -- star of over 150 Telugu, Tamil and Kannada films -- is headed for Hollywood. The strapping 41-year-old is playing the lead in Chicago Taxi, a Magnum Film Corporation production "about the harsh realities including the humiliation faced by an Indian landing in the US". Magnum has earlier worked with stars like Chuck Norris, but Suman's not gloating. "My priority," he says, "is not making money but to act in all Indian language films." All? Well okay, good luck.

Enjoy!

Enjoy! The joke is on the pranksters now. When MTV recently staged a kidnapping for their show MTV Bakra, they had the Mumbai Police fuming. As hidden cameras rolled, knife-wielding channel staffers Raju Gosavi and Madan Mangesh accosted veejay Cyrus Sahukar at a hotel, and bundled him into a waiting jeep. The police -- alerted by shocked patrons -- were not amused when they caught up with them and heard the truth. The duo were arrested and later let off on bail. Says MTV spokesperson Hemant Kenkre: "Since it was Cyrus' birthday we had decided to surprise him. We did not mean to hurt anyone." But guess who got the surprise.
