Select Few
Standard-format ramp shows aren't
everyone's cup of tea. Pallavi Jaikishan is one of them. The Mumbai-based veteran designer
prefers informal gatherings of clients (preferably in her home city), or group exhibitions
-- with rack upon rack of clothes lined up -- like the one organised by Delhi boutique
Ogaan last week. Too bad that apart from her tiger-printed sharara complete with a
matching dupatta and daringly tiny golden blouse, Jaikishan's remaining outfits did not
throw up many surprises.
But youngster Puja Nayyar provided ample compensation. Nayyar's salwar suits -- one
collection in jacquard embroidered with gold thread and wire that were given an antique
finish, and another range in crinkled fabric -- were very elegant. Ditto for Delhi
designer Sonam Dubal's more western outfits, with one stylishly cut, glossy purple silk
kurta-trouser set standing out. The simplicity made all the difference.
