Malvinder, 27 & Shivinder, 24
The Ranbaxy Heirs

The Inheritors
It isn't an easy legacy to live with. Their father stated that his sons shouldn't be "inheriting the company if they didn't deserve it". The late Ranbaxy chairman Parvinder Singh left that legacy, along with a Rs 1,919 crore company poised on the cutting edge of pharmaceuticals. So Malvinder Singh is senior manager, market development. In March, younger brother Shivinder would be back from the US to "plunge straight into the family business". Both Malav and Shivi don't drink, and are vegetarians. Malav will concentrate on Ranbaxy and strengthen its already strong R&D thrust. "We'll step up research on discovery of new molecules," he says. Shivi will steer the foray into healthcare, a chain of hospitals and possibly, health insurance. And they'll work hard. Or they don't get the top job.
