East Feast
Didn't anyone tell these kids plastic isn't eco-friendly? At Smirnoff International Fashion Awards' east zone finals in Calcutta last week, the theme was "Virtual Nature" but the 10 debutante designers went wild with plastic and other non bio-degradable items. They also dropped the reins on their collective imagination. The stage was taken over by a skirt made of plastic tubs, a dollar-bill costume, even an "open womb" ensemble -- a complex dress with a womb pattern partly-painted and partly embroidered on. Winner Abhishek Datta, 20, now heads for the all-India final in Mumbai with runner-up Soumen Pal. His creation resembled a giant flowering plant with raindrops clinging to the petals. Here's one guy who stuck to the theme.
