SPECIAL SERIES Mallika, 40 &
Venu Srinivasan, 45
Director, TAFE & CEO, TVS Suzuki, Sundaram Clayton
Power Couple
He has already
made a mark. She is making one. Corporate India's reigning power couple -- unpretentious
but unrelenting -- will, from all indications, carry on a while longer. Venu Srinivasan is
still gloating -- and he should. Last year, his Sundaram Clayton became the only Asian
company outside Japan to bag the Deming Prize for quality. Meanwhile, he turned around
TVS-Suzuki which in 1991 was on the verge of a lockout. Turnover today: Rs 1,040 crore.
Wife Mallika is a director of TAFE, a Rs 900 crore tractors major. In terms of profit
performance, she's ahead of Venu. And she will have more chances to show off that trait as
the likely successor to her father, A. Sivasailam, who heads the Chennai-based 31-company
Amalgamations Group. Together, Venu and Mallika are in line to run one of the bigger
corporate empires in India. And if there's ever a problem, they can always meet over a
working lunch.
