Metro Scape

What Couture?
It was like Halloween Night. There was a touch of the weird in shapely models sashaying across the ramp in outfits made of metal chains, clips, fish scales, rubbers strings, cane and mirrors. Designers really let their imagination run
riot at the fifth Smirnoff International Fashion Awards show in Mumbai last week. The theme: Virtual Nature.

Some of the creations left little to imagination. There was an audible gasp when Madhu Sapre walked down in a metal bustier moulded to her body with wires. It was aptly called Primordial Search.

Fawzia Haniff, 21, of the Bangalore Design School won the event with her Verge of Merge -- rubber strings crocheted on chiffon. As a rather tipsy spectator said, "What happened to cloth, has it vanished from the market?" Virtually.
