Go Delhi: Art
There's mystery in her work -- and
not just because an acronym, gap, became her name. The French painter uses the claustra (a
geometrical architectural element which goes into making fretted walls) as a "visual
filter", a device to examine the territory which lies between art and reality.
Ordinary objects like bags, shoes and hats are imbued with meaning. Particularly vivid is
her series "My Artist is a Yogi". Oil Paintings are on show at
Galerie Romain Rolland from December 2-16 and Etchings and Lithographs at
Atelier 2221 from December 4-30. For further information call (011) 625-8128.
Hotel
It's a new concept in hotels in India, or at least that's what the owners
will have you believe. The Manor in the capital's New Friends Colony is a
"designer hotel" aimed at India's four Ms -- the media, movie, modelling and
music industries. The two-storey, 18-bedroom hotel boasts of custom-designed handmade
carpets, and overlooks a one-and-a-half acre landscaped garden. Rent for a single room is
Rs 8,100 a night. The restaurant offers continental cuisine. The hotel also has a bar,
though it is yet to get a licence to serve alcohol. Telephone: (011) 6925151. Fax: (011)
692-2299. For details check the website www.themanor.delhi.com |
