For A Start...
Surshree Rathod, eight-year-old daughter of singers Roop Kumar and Sonali RathodHer name means "goddess of music". Suits her. Surshree Rathod, eight-year-old daughter of singers Roop Kumar and Sonali Rathod, makes her singing debut on her parents' soon-to-be released album Mohabbat ho gayee. "When we were composing for it, she was giving us ideas," says mama, "and we decided that in one song (Pyar ke dum se sara zamana), we should retain her voice." Says Surshree simply: "I enjoyed it very much. I was proud of myself." Some day she hopes to study music at Trinity College. Nothing less, huh?

He Said, She Said
Deepak ChopraIt's back to the courts for Deepak Chopra. The US-based New Age guru is suing former subordinate Joyce Weaver for blackmail. Remember his suit against The Weekly Standard for its article claiming he tried to pay a sex worker by credit card? Now Chopra says Weaver threatened to expose allegations of a tryst with a prostitute (before the article was published) unless he paid her $50,000 (Rs 21.5 lakh). "It's a matter of principle for him," says Chopra's attorney. Weaver says this is Chopra's vendetta for a sexual harassment suit she had filed against him. Whew! Figure this out yourself!

MANNEQUIN ON THE MOVE
Model Nethra RaghuramanShe's got the look. Now look out for her talent. Model Nethra Raghuraman, a two-and-a-half song bimbette in Govind Nihalani's Thakshak, has silenced her critics by holding her own against Naseeruddin Shah and the rest in adman Mahesh Mathai's Bhopal Express. "I did Thakshak because I am a major admirer of Govind. I wasn't looking at a film career then," she explains. "I realised I enjoy acting only after Bhopal Express." One thing's for sure: "I'm not willing to do any rubbish." Why should she? She deserves better.

SINGING STAR
We first knew him as one half of the singing Shaan brother-sister duo Shaan & Sagarika. Turns out he can act too. The boy who went solo with a rather inane Loveology but then redeemed himself with the chart-topping Musu musu earlier this year, is making his film debut in Kalpana Lajmi's Daman. "His young image is a perfect foil to the male protagonist who's an evil man," says Lajmi. Shaan will also be singing in the film. Another Kishore Kumar in the making? Wait and see.
