The Movie review Mickey Blue Eyes Director:
Kelly Makin There's a certain way that Hugh Grant says "Wow". Without an exclamation mark, the word weighed down by irony, he said it to co-star Julianne Moore who surprised him with an unplanned pregnancy in Nine Months. He says it again in this film when his girlfriend (Jeanne Tripplehorn) informs him that her father is a notorious mafioso. So thank goodness Mickey Blue Eyes is no Godfather, taking a brooding look at crime syndicates. No sirree, nothing serious about this one. It's a spoof on the mafia. And as the aspiring son-in-law of a don, Grant, remarkably-youthful-looking at 39, and despite his limited repertoire of expressions, makes a loveable leading man. Story
is simple enough. Boy falls in love with girl. Girl is reluctant to
introduce boy to her family. Boy bumps into her papa, and discovers the
truth -- that the family is The Family, and that she's afraid he'll end up
being "one of them". And so it goes on. Despite a dash of
predictability in the series of misadventures that follow, Mickey Blue
Eyes is an amusing film. The script, especially in the first half, is
replete with funny one-liners. The lead pair manage to make even an
accidental killing look comical. And Grant, as always, has great visual
appeal. Wow. -Anna M.M.Vetticad
