India Today issue dt February 21, 2000Boy, Oh Boy!
He was the youngest participant at the Mumbai International Film Festival (miff) last week. There's more to him than just that.
V.Abhimanyu and Dad Ten-year-old V. Abhimanyu, son of Malayalam writer M. Vinaykumar, made a splash at the fest with Kuttumanipookkal (Pretty Little Flowers), a film he's scripted. Says miff Director Bankim Kapadia, "Though young, his writing shows sensitivity and maturity." Abhimanyu has had 16 stories published so far. Oh boy!

Dino Has His Day
Dino Morea
spouting lines in Tamil? Hard to believe, but true. Dino Morea The been-everywhere-seen-everywhere model is appearing in Rajiv Menon's forthcoming film Kandu Kondain Kandu Kondain. Menon's the adman-turned-director who made the Kajol-starrer Minsara Kanavu (Sapnay in Hindi), remember? In a scene by the pool, he's got Morea doing more of what he's best known for: strip down to his underwear. Says the star on a serious note: "I am not entirely new to the language (Tamil). I used to speak Tamil with little urchins in Bangalore." That's training enough.

Super Wife
Lata Latha RajnikanthMangeshkar, Latha Rajnikanth, same thing. The lady better known as Tamil superstar Rajnikanth's wife is busy making the video of her just-released pop album Mayajaalam, which she has written, composed, produced and sung for. It's mostly in her mother tongue, but she's also thrown in a couple of English numbers for good measure. You are a part of me is inspired by "my husband's aura of mystique in his films". That Rajni connection again.

When She Says No...
It's Kabhi ha kabhi na with Juhi Chawla. the lady's opted out Juhi Chawla at the eleventh hour, from Hansal Mehta's Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar opposite Manoj Bajpai. Maybe Mehta shouldn't feel so bad -- Chawla's got a rep for quitting at the last moment from films that later turned out to be superhits. Like Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Raja Hindustani, Viraasat and Vastav. But hey, "I've made my choices, some turned out to be good and some were bad. What to do?" Well, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. And sometimes she gotta say no.
