 Neigh Day Going, going and gone...," Cyrus (not the Broacha) Madan, tv host for horse racing, may well have said these words a hundred times over at the Royal Western Indian Turf Club in Pune last week. Though the city's annual horse auction lacked glitz, Madan's ceaseless chatter kept up the interest of even the non-bidders present. The auction moved from Mumbai to Pune two years ago due to the easy availability of "accommodation" for the beasts and a pleasant climate. It's been trotting along ever since. The sale of Sizzling Melody for Rs 1 lakh set the tone for the rest of the sales on an afternoon when buyers shelled out a total of Rs 17.5 lakh.
