Go Delhi : Restaurant Orlando
-- a peculiar name for an Indian cuisine restaurant -- recently opened at
Gourmet Gallery in South Extension. The 'Mughal' atmosphere jarringly
contrasts with red and white chequered table cloths. The fare is standard
(reshmi kebab, dum aloo) and indifferent. Average meal for two: Rs
400-500. Telephone: (011) 625-4651. Art Shuvaprasanna's
Icons, a solo exhibition of the Calcutta-born artist's paintings, is not
about traditional religious images. The gods and goddesses in these works
-- Durga, Saraswati, Lakshmi and Krishna among
others -- float in free space on their mounts, hair streaming
around them in most cases, with their heads detached from their bodies and
hollow cylinders for torsoes. Shuvaprasanna has given the deities faces
that are neither happy nor sad, merely peaceful to the extent that they
almost appear to be expressionless. The show has been accompanied by the
release of Chitrotpala Mukherjee's book, Shuvaprasanna-Vision: Reality and
Beyond. The exhibition, presented in association with Art Indus, is on
till March 5 at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts. For
further information on the show and the book, call (011) 338-6345. Go
