Temple Belles The
night hid the copulating figures in stone, but the Khajuraho temples
provided a spectacular backdrop for designer Ashish Soni's show. A dozen
willowy models showed off 85 ensembles as part of the ongoing "Khajuraho
Millennium Year" festivities, while Soni crowed he was the only
Indian designer to hold a show at a national heritage site. Of Soni's collections, the evening wear in pink and grey was the best. However, the white plastic chappals reminded one of a stroll on Chowpatty beach rather than a fashion show. The Khajuraho housewives and holidaying hippies watched the event -- not exactly potential haute couture customers, but a sprinkling of Delhi's fashionable crowd eventually showed up. A countess -- Pauline Von Lindeth Evetts came with friend Shireen Paul, chairperson Apeejay Surrendra Pvt Ltd. Kanti and Promila Poddar of the Khajuraho Millenium Committee and Soni's fianc e Misha Grewal came with family in tow. Well, a spicy venue for a not-so-spicy show. What next? -Leher
