Ready to Wear

Art and fashion dutifully combined at the splashy opening of Tina Ambani's Harmony Show. The lamp was lit by the Bachchans while the likes of Parmeshwar Godrej, Shobha De and Dolly Thakore  checked out the 270 exhibits put up by 138 artists. But the spotlight was on a pavilion on "wearable art" where fashion designers Wendell Rodricks, Shaina NC, Lascelles Symons and Raeesa Husain paired up with artists Theodore Mesquita, Brinda Chudasama, Justin Ponmany and Owais Husain. Siblings Shaina NC and Brinda Chudasama did a jazzy combo -- a leather stole painted in acrylic and an embroidered sari called sariscape. Rodricks mostly stuck to black -- tight leggings with a small top and a transparent sheath. Opinions, however, differed on wearability. While Lascelles was keen on designing "unwearable art", Shaina said wearability would be known "only after the show". Of course, the artists and their works took a backseat while the celebs attracted the shutterbugs. Typical of a Tina evening.
