Playing a poem

Do I dare disturb the Universe?" Prufrock's loaded query in the T.S. Eliot's classic poem wasn't just said by a character on stage, it also set the tone of the evening at Horniman Circle Garden in Mumbai. This time Sanjana Kapoor's theatre evening had director Ninaz Khodaiji and her cast perform Eliot in a garden and also enact The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock and The Wasteland with personal interpretations. Khodaiji herself played the wilder id in Prufrock's character. And the 40-minute Wasteland created a different mood with its excellent choreography. "Maybe there is a discerning audience out there," was Khodaiji's  reaction. Certainly, and they're looking for more theatre under the stars.
