Charity's Out Remember
the meagre gathering at an aids
charity in the capital two weeks ago? Well, Delhiites obviously just don't
believe in spending for a good cause. Free Spirit, designer Monisha
Bajaj's spring-summer collection failed to draw Delhi's regular party
animals because of the far-from-princely fee of Rs 1,000. "For
unlimited alcohol, great ambience and glamorous models, it's a
steal," says Kumkum Talwar of Savera Association, a charity
organisation run by Delhi's affluent ladies. Well, it was enough to scare
off our freebie Delhiites from showing up. Bajaj's signature collection in
white, lightly encrusted with Swarovski crystals, was the best. "I
concentrate more on styling and less on embroidery," said the
designer who wore a gorgeous white and gold sari. Sal Tahiliani, Jatin Das
and socialite twosome Michelle Vadra and Vinay Kapoor were the only
representatives of Delhi's celeberatti. "A free dispensary for the
poor will be built with the proceeds of this show," says Bajaj.
Judging by the crowd, that might take a while. -Leher Kala
