Doctors on wheels A
bunch of health-conscious docs in Pune have discovered the sportive
pleasures of cycling, and are pedal-powering their way to work every
morning. "It's free, it's fun and it keeps you trim," says a
fighting fit 50-year-old Dr Mahesh Tulpule, who visits six hospitals daily
covering a distance of 13 long kilometres. And since Tulpule began the
trend a couple of years back, the number of freewheeling doctors has risen
to more than 25. But for many
of them the beginning was tough, specially when curious neighbours and
patients thought that the docs were losing business. Laughs Dr Dilip Sarda:
"One patient even offered to buy me a vehicle. But once he understood
why I was doing it, he bought a bike as well." So Pune's new health
mantra: bicycling everyday keeps the doctor away.
