 Chennai on the rocks It
was called "Vaira Swayamvaram", but it was not about selecting a
groom. At a jewellery fashion show in Chennai last week, the theme was a
king choosing jewels for his princess. While he was at it, since the show
was organised by diamonds major DeBeers, the emcee -- the king's minister
in the script -- read out lengthy promotional scrolls on each
participating jeweller whose latest bridal designs the models wore at the
Guindy Race Course grounds that day. Said De Beers' India manager Prasad
Kapre: "Diamonds are not just beautiful, they are affordable too. We
are seeking to drum up that awareness." In Chennai, you don't even
