Drama in real life It's
not what you'd call a "safe subject". But The Last Supper,
staged by Pierrot's Troupe at Delhi's India Habitat Centre this week, is
not about playing safe. Directed by M. Sayeed Alam and scripted by Saif
Hyder Hasan, it is a play inspired by the brutal murder of Graham Staines
and his sons in Orissa last year. It's about Ramesh Bhatnagar who quits
"the Mahasabha" and along with his wife Sudha moves to Bhimapur
where "a Christian priest" has been killed. Isn't hard to guess
which place Bhimapur stands for or the identity of the missionary. Against
the backdrop of the killing, The Last Supper examines the hypocrisy in
personal relationships and public life. |
