Nifty
wear
On
a hot, sticky evening a 3,000 plus crowd jostled and fought with rude
policemen to enter Delhi's Siri Fort Auditorium. Reason? Award winning
students from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) were
showcasing their creations. "Invitation card please," growled
the guard on duty. Invitees who forgot to bring their cards were tossed
out of the hall. Lucky them. A jarring sound system, an audio visual about
sponsors Zeenext gone totally haywire and a disgruntled crowd camping in
the aisles (not enough seating) left the audience in no mood to
participate in the Viewers' Choice Awards. Mercifully, some of the wacky
creations almost made it worth the effort. The sequence "Living in
the Streets" had an interesting mix of leather, suede and fur dresses
worn with high boots. A particularly zany creation, "Art is
Fart" had jeans with zips at the back, embellished with white
embroidery and red satin piping. Looks like the audience took the
"Fart" title quite literally: the viewers vote went to a typical
bridal red lehnga. Not quite "nifty", what.
