Looking Glass

Mumbai: Art

Jaidev Thakore's display of paper-cuts and Indian-like sculptures are a change from regular fare at exhibitions. His mostly off-white paper cuts are soothing. The fish motif dominates. One titled Toff's Jacket has embroidery and looks like a doll's coat. Thakore, however, is at his experimental best with his sculptures, which are stark and different. He combines stones like emeralds, rubies and yellow sapphires, with materials like cast iron, wood and even gun metal. On till June 10. Timings: 10.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. except Sundays. At Pundole Art Gallery, 369, Dadabhai Naoroji Road. Call (022) 284-1837/204-8473.

Delhi: Theatre

Asmita theatre group is putting up a Summer Feast of Plays. The main features of the festival are the group's most recent production Kal Kothri written by Swadesh Deepak, a poignant portrayal of the travails of a stage actor; and a monologue in English by Jaimini Kumar, based on Dario Fo's Story of the Tiger. Also included are the Hindi adaptations of Mahesh Dattani's Final Solutions and Neil Simon's The Good Doctor. All the plays have been directed by Arvind Gaur. On till June 11 at Shri Ram Centre. Calcuttans never get fed up with Chinese food. The latest restaurant to open in the city, Mainland China, takes foodies on a tour of provinces like Hunan and Fukien to come up with some exotic specialities. The hot favourites are Pekinese Drunken Chicken and Lobster Hubei Style. This 140-cover restaurant has typical hexagonal tables and  five-star looks but with a "comfortable price tag". A meal for two (without drinks) would cost Rs 600. Plans are on to offer a special lunch deal (Rs 180 per head). Open from noon to 3 p.m. and 7-11 p.m. Call (033) 287-2006.
