Jazzmatazz

While the off-form Lou Bega was wilting at his stadium concert in Delhi along with 8,000 others, more fortunate music lovers were chilling out at the Maurya Sheraton. The reason (other than full blast ACs): Angela Hagenbach, one of America's best jazz artists (dressed sportingly in an emerald sari given to her by Louis Banks' wife "in Bumbaai   Mambaai or whatever Bombay's new name is") was going ragtime with some deathless tunes like Duke Ellington's Take the 'A' train and Cole Porter's sonorous classic I've got you under my skin. The American Embassy, the hosts, had also arranged a decorously American dinner including spare ribs, red fennel hash and turkey burgers. But the hall got empty as soon as the buffet ended. Delhiites seem to prefer Daler even if they dig Yankee food.
