Q&A:
Madhavan It's 10 p.m. And Madhavan sits smugly at a Chennai hotel sipping coffee. Mani Ratnam's Alaipayuthe is running to full houses in its eighth week, earning its 6-ft, 29-year-old hero accolades both for his looks and his acting.
Q. One hit and you are hailed as the South's answer to Hrithik Roshan. Flattered? A. I am but I don't have half the pressures of expectations that Hrithik has. Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai happened because of Hrithik. The same cannot be said of Alaipayuthe. Q. How is the attention affecting you? A. I have become more self-conscious. Earlier, no girl would look my way. It's become embarrassing for me to explain myself now. Q. So you got some 30 offers after Alaipayuthe? And another film with Mani Ratnam? A. Yes. I have accepted five of the offers. Mani Ratnam has asked me to do his next film too, and it will be an honour. Panga Primer Underneath the bear-hugs and tusi chaa gaye paaji affection, Bollywood is simmering with pangas. A primer on who not to invite to the same dinner party: Saroj Khan and Farah Khan, Subhash Ghai and Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Khalid Mohammed, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen. Rumour of the Week That Shah Rukh Khan, who has for years survived on sheer charisma and energy, has been spotted pumping iron at a suburban gym. The superstar wants a bod before sharing the frame with new star on the horizon, Hrithik Roshan, for Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. Compiled by Anupama Chopra and Methil Renuka |
