India Today issue dated July 10, 2000The New Noyna
She's been a ramp regular for a while. But Noyonika Chatterjee is taking no chances. The model with the trademark curls is now producing software -- 15 minutes of desi style daily -- for FTV's Michael Adam Presents India Fashion, in addition to some other stuff she's got lined up with FTV and musicNoyonika Chatterjee channel B4U. Of course, this means less of the lovely Noyna on the catwalk. "I do miss the ramp sometimes," she sighs. "It was easier in a way, just about looking good and performing well on stage. Production is a lot more taxing, there's much more responsibility involved." Doesn't hurt to move on though.

Patel Pop
Devang Patel
He wanted to be a film star. And he's getting there. Gujarati stage actor Devang Patel is starring in the videos for his just-released debut Hindi pop album Patelscope, a string of spoofs on recent international pop hits. The collection includes Bamboo No. 5, a take on Lou Bega's Mambo No. 5; Chaloo girl from Aqua's Barbie girl; and more. "I just want everyone to laugh and enjoy themselves," he gurgles. And if they laugh at him instead? He'll risk it.

A Little Bit of Monica...
Monica Bedi
"The stars are smiling on me," says Monica Bedi, "I knew I was good." Either that, or she's just plain darned lucky. The actress who's so far been confined to what the industry disdainfully dismisses as B- and C-grade films, has finally got her big break. Two of them, to be precise. She's playing the lead in director Rajiv (Tridev, Mohra, Gupt) Rai's next film Pyar, Ishq aur Mohabbat. Bollywood's ultrasuccessful creator of comedies David Dhawan has signed her on too. She's right, the stars are smiling.

Rest Assured
Aditya Chopra
It's the film to watch out for this autumn. But that's not the only reason why DDLJ guy Aditya Chopra's Mohabbatein is making news right now. The Amitabh Bachchan-Shah Rukh Khan-Aishwarya Rai-starrer has become the first Bollywood film to claim insurance. The project was insured for Rs 12 crore. And as it turned out, it ran into losses when shooting was delayed because Ash was injured in an accident. The Chopras are claiming Rs 15 lakh from the insurance company. Says producer Yash Chopra, Adi's dad: "It's not such a big deal as everyone is making it out to be. We incurred losses but the film is complete and will be released on October 27." Still, it's news.
