Piano Man

On a humid evening last week, Mumbaikars got an opportunity to watch the charming French pianist, Richard Clayderman in a "musical conversation" at St Andrews Auditorium. The concert, a part of a short Indian promo tour organised to test the Indian response to his music, included some classic ditties from Westside Story and Titanic, apart from the number that shot him to fame, Ballade Pour Adeline. Going by the applause he got, Clayderman, who does 200 concerts a year, seemed excited about returning to India "with all his musicians". "I would love to record Indian titles," he said "if I could just work out how to adapt them to the piano." But it'll be just as good if he can come down and play again ... and again, and again!
