Ayurveda Alert

So now London's got an Ayurveda hospital. The man behind the munificent venture is Gopi Warrier, a business management graduate who recognised aryuveda's growing popularity in the West and wanted "to keep the moral authority of ayurveda in Indian hands". So the 30-bed Ayurvedic Charitable Hospital has four qualified ayurvedic physicians from India (assisted by two local GPS) and will treat patients on a first-come, first-serve basis. "The form of healing is for all sections of the society, not just for the rich and the famous," says Warrier, dismissing fears about any elitist patient preferences. And within the first week of its opening there have been over 7,000 calls, about 70 per cent being from Europeans. But the problem about funding remains -- the annual running costs of the hospital are about -- 1.2 million. Are the overloaded expats listening?
