LOOKING GLASS

DELHI
Film Festival

Cinefan, the 2nd Cinemaya Festival of Asian Cinema, is an absolute bonanza for film lovers. From September 10-17, watch films from across the continent at two venues, India Habitat Centre and the French Cultural Centre. Includes a special section on Korean films, a tribute to Smita Patil, and silent films from the West with Asian images. The festival closes with Mani Ratnam's latest blockbuster, Alaipayuthey. For more details, call (011) 468-2222 or 301-4682.

Play

"People don't understand," says Vivek Mansukhani, "that a comedy is tougher to do than a serious play." Hasn't stopped him from specialising in funny fare. The latest from his theatre group, Scene Stealers, is Georges Feydeau's An Absolute Turkey. Set in Paris, it's about Pontaganac who plays a trick on his friend Vatelin by accusing him of being unfaithful to his wife Lucienne. The ulterior motive: he wants Lucienne for himself. What follows is crazy, predictable, typical Feydeau. As an add-on, there are costumes from Delhi designer Manish Arora. For details, call (011) 338-5613. On from September 15-19 at Kamani Auditorium.

MUMBAI
Restaurant

Feeling blue? Here's how to get to Cloud Nine. Drive to Garden Road, Colaba, make your way to the ninth floor of Hotel Godwin, and there you are. The restaurant, complete with al fresco dining area, provides a great view of the harbour. But don't harbour any hopes about the "gourmet" menu. The golden fried fish cakes are not exactly fresh (Rs 110), the chicken satay (Rs 95) is just about okay, though the chicken paneer kababs served with green chutney (Rs 110) are yummy. Of course, this is as romantic a setting as you can get in a matchboxed city. Plus the balcony will soon be a venue for live bands and supper theatre, says owner Vishal Manghnani. Meal for two averages Rs 500. Telephone: (022) 202-3459.

Munnar
Resort

The Club Mahindra Lakeview resort in Kerala's misty Munnar gets an added attraction this month: The Cottage, "a full-service bar serving a wide variety of spirits, beers and beverages," announces Prakash Wakankar, director and CEO of Mahindra Holidays and Resorts. The opening is well-timed: mid-September is just right for visiting the resort, with its 92 rooms and cottages, for its post-monsoon campfire nights. Telephone: (04868) 49294/24.

Pune
Store

The trendy Westside chain of lifestyle stores from the house of Tatas has just opened in the city. Located at Moledina Road, the three-storeyed store is spread over 12,000 sq ft and is divided into sections for menswear, womenswear, kidswear, household accessories, gifts, cosmetics, perfumes and more. The household section stocks an extensive range of towels, bed and table linen, crockery and bric a brac. Westside is open seven days a week from 10.30 a.m. to 8.30 p.m.
