They Matter
- There
are more than 1.5 million people of Indian origin in America.
- The median
income of an Indian-American family is $60,093 as against the national
median income of $38,885.
- More
than 87 per cent of Indians in America have completed high school while
58 per cent hold a bachelor's or a higher degree.
- Over
5,000 Indian-Americans serve as faculty members in universities in the
US.
- Over
three lakh Indian-Americans work in Silicon Valley. Their average income
is over $200,000 per year.
- The estimated
annual buying power of Indian-Americans is around $20 billion.
- Indian-Americans
now play a direct role in political activities. Many are prominent political
fund-raisers at the federal, state and local levels.
- This
and growing commercial interest in India has resulted in the India Caucus
on Capitol Hill going up to 118 members.
