LOOKING GLASS

Restaurants
Delhi: Japanese cuisine, always a favourite with fashion models (thanks to fat-free sushi) and business execs with a fetish for power luncheons, got two more restaurants. Sakura, the latest, at Hotel Nikko in Gole Market has quintessential Oriental decor (bare wooden furniture and dim lighting) that matches well with marinated cuttlefish (starters) and the more colourful grilled eel with whisked egg. A meal for two (minus alcohol) costs about Rs 2,000 with taxes. It's usp: all ingredients are imported from Japan. Call (011) 334-2000.

Enoki, at the Grand Hyatt specialises in "yakitori" or skewered food cooked directly on a grill, a kind of Japanese "snack" food comparable to Indian tandoori. Recommended dish is Umeboshi (pickled plums) with Negima or grilled chicken. The seating is traditional tatami (on the floor), so think twice if you feel your knees are weaker than your appetite. A meal for two would cost Rs 1,200 plus taxes-a lot less than TK's at the Hyatt Regency. Call (011) 612-1234.

Cafe
Mumbai: This is easy. If you get tired playing pool or bowling at the game arcade Buddy's in Nana Chowk, just move over to Taste Buds, a cheerful Italian restaurant opened in the same complex. Done up in typical cafe style with checked linen and metallic furniture, Taste Buds serves a variety of pastas and lasagnas. Tasty quick bites also include jumbo sandwiches. Meal for two: Rs 500. Call (022) 387-5495.
