METROSCAPE: LOOKING GLASS

BANGALORE
Resort

Historical TV serials is one side of the man. The other is luxury resorts and health spas. Actor-director Sanjay Khan's family-owned World Resorts has tied up with Hilton International for a 150-room Mediterranean-style Hilton Golden Palms Resort and Spa about 25 km north-west of Bangalore. The resort has all the regulation five-star features (conference halls, speciality restaurants) but its main draw is a five-level spa and a lagoon-type swimming pool. The rejuvenation package includes hydrotherapy treatments, ayurvedic, Balinese and Swedish massages, acupressure and reflexology. Room rates range from Rs 6,500 for a standard double to Rs 14,000 for a deluxe suite. At Nagarur, Village Dassnapura Hobli, off Tumkur Road. Call (080) 371-2222.

Skating Rink

India's first artificial ice-skating rink, stretching across 1,400 sq ft and costing Rs 35 lakh, opened at the Megabowl family entertainment centre last week. The rink's synthetic surface simulates all the characteristics of real ice and can therefore be used for recreational ice kating, figure skating, ice hockey and roller skating. The artificial surface is also slower than a real one, making it ideal for beginners. The rate is Rs 50 for 30 minutes. And don't worry... teachers and skates are provided. Open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Call (080) 527-0446.

KOLKATA
Store

Westside, the swank new lifestyle store at Camac Street from the Tata enterprise Trent has two floors of clothing for women, men and children, household goods, accessories, gift items and toys. But the real value of the store, as chairperson Simone Tata explains, is that Kolkata now has a "large-format store where most shopping can be done under one roof". Better still the store is open all days, 10.30 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Call (033) 281-7312.
