METROSCAPE: LOOKING GLASS

MUMBAI
Exhibition

Sixty-five Indian and American clay artists including Madhavi Subramanian and Collette Smith have donated their works for an Indo-US show of ceramic art, "Potters in Peril", the sale proceeds of which shall go to help Kutch potters affected by the Gujarat earthquake. The exhibition, goes beyond standard clay sculptures of pots, lampstands and figures to include the impulsive-like Ruby Jhunjhunwala's colourful mural or Dina Angel Wing's archaic take on a teapot. Most are for sale (Rs 1,000-40,000), but some works are marked for bidding with the last bid deadline being June 17, 4 p.m. On till June 22 at the NGMA. Call (022) 2852457 or 2044285.

CHENNAI
Coffee Bar

After 26 expresso bars across the country, Barista has now opened its first outlet in Chennai. Prices (at about Rs 30 for a cup) are more than those of Qwiky's and Coffee Day, the city's other well-entrenched coffee pubs, but that hasn't stopped the sunset-orange hangout from getting the crowds. Hottest off the counter is traditional favourite cappuccino, followed by walnut brownie with vanilla ice cream, cold coffee (chillingly called Brrrista)) and the toasted sandwiches, both in white and brown bread. There's a guitar handy just in case you want to sing for your supper. At 4, Khader Nawaz Khan Road.

BANGALORE
Resort

Angsana Oasis Spa and Resort, on Doddaballapur Road about 40 km away from the city, adds to Bangalore's already indelible reputation as the spa capital of India. Sharing space with run of the mill conference centres, business rooms and multi-cuisine restaurants are the resort's novelties-the acres of landscaped gardens for the for walks, different temperature Roman pools and the jumble of cosmetic treatments including tangerine body wraps, natural mud wraps and Russian baths. There are also playrooms for kids, glass-wall squash courts, tennis courts and outdoor jacuzzis. Room tariffs start at Rs 2,800 per night and go up to Rs 5,000. Call (080) 846-8521 or e-mail prestige1@vsnl.com for more details.
