Q&A: SUNNY DEOL
"I Have My Own Space In The Sky"

Gadar's success reaffirms Sunny Deol's status as an action hero. The actor on competition and future:

Q. Did you expect to return with such a big hit?
A.
I was expecting a good response but never expected Gadar to be such a big hit. The script was suitable for my kind of personality.

Q. Was it tough with Aamir Khan's Lagaan releasing the same day?
A.
I am not bothered by competition. The sky is full of stars and I have my own space up there.

Q. What do you want to do as a producer and director?
A.
I'm not directing any film, it's a fulltime job. I'll finish my acting projects first.

Did You Know?

A bunch of male stars has turned producers. Now Manisha Koirala has followed suit. With her career as an actress not going anywhere, Koirala has ventured into production. Naturally her first venture Ganga, which has a subject close to her heart, will feature herself. Shyam Benegal will be directing the film. Anticipating distribution problem for the art movie, Koirala herself is going to distribute the film across the country.

Commercial Art

Govinda completes a full circle. He is preparing to move from pure commercial style-a la David Dhawan's loud and masala films-to art cinema. Govinda liked the subject of the script Shyam Benegal has written keeping him in mind as a central character. Govind Nihalani too has approached him for his next venture. Says Govinda: "I want to do parallel cinema for a change, but on my terms and conditions." So strong is his inclination to work in parallel films that if the subject is interesting he may even consider reducing his price. Govinda sure has many takers.
