Convicts who were released on the state Government's recommendation

MITHU SINGH: Sentenced to life term on January 1, 1995 by the Sirsa court for killing a man from his village. Appeals rejected by high court and Supreme Court. Release order issued on August 11, 2000.
TIME SPENT IN JAIL: 10 years, two months and 14 days.

SIRIYANS KUMAR JAIN: Sentenced to life term in a political murder on March 3, 1990 by a Hisar court. Conviction quashed by high court but upheld by the Supreme Court. Remission granted on January 25, 1999. Pardon quashed by Supreme Court. Another petition filed on June 10, 2000. Release order issued on May 23, 2001.
TIME SPENT IN JAIL: Two years, 11 months and 14 days.

SARVJIT SINGH: Sentenced to life on September 24, 1991 for killing his wife. Appeals rejected by high court and Supreme Court. Release recommended on May 21, 2001. Freed on July 17, 2001.
TIME SPENT IN JAIL: Nine years, four months and 24 days.

SATISH KUMAR: Awarded life term on April 23, 1981 in dowry death case. Sentence upheld by Supreme Court. Release order issued on May 21, 2001.
TIME SPENT IN JAIL: 10 years and 29 days.

JAGTAR SINGH: Sentenced to life term on May 11, 1989 for killing a man from his village. Fined Rs 500. Conviction upheld by high court. Release order issued on October 13, 1999.
IMPRISONMENT: 11 years, eight months and 19 days.

 

SATBIR SINGH: Sentenced to life imprisonment on August 9, 1997 for the murder of Jasbir Singh. Release order on October 26, 1999.
IMPRISONMENT: Two years, nine months and 15 days.

 

SAT PARKASH: Sentenced to life imprisonment on August 9, 1997 for the killing of Jasbir Singh. Conviction upheld by Supreme Court. Release recommended on October 13, 1999.
IMPRISONMENT: Two years, nine months and 18 days.

 

HIMMAT SINGH: Sentenced to five years' rigorous imprisonment on August 9, 1997 in the Jasbir murder case. Release order issued on August 11, 2000.
IMPRISONMENT: Three years, three months and 28 days.
