METROSCAPE: LOOKING GLASS

DELHI
Supermarket

FoodPlus, GK-II's first supermarket, is a must grocery stopover for those who focus on cheeses, sauces and chocolates and other ancillary goodies. The store also manages to have the all the features of a mini mall without being one: a cosmetic counter, a toiletries section, a frozen food table, a playpen and an in-house café that serves pizzas, croissants and coffee. Regulars can avail a point system for discounts and privilege cards. Parking may be a problem, but everyone familiar with the market already knows that. Call (011) 6291200/1300.

MUMBAI
Confectioners

If sweet dreams are made of these, the Oberoi Pastry Shop could have you daydreaming for a long time. Famous for its rustic loaves, slender baguettes and conch-shaped croissants, the bakery has now spent alomost Rs 3.35 crore to refurbish its 3,000 sq ft kitchen which is run by executive pastry chef Mario Lara and caters to 1,000 rooms, nine restaurants, 13 banquet and their pastry shop-that's roughly 9,000 people per day. Chef Lara though is not sitting pretty. His latest innovations include chocoart or figurines of dancing elephants and ornate horses drawn from ancient Indian folklore, low-fat yogurt ice cream and eggless pastries. Was that a grimace from the chocoholics? For more information call Oberoi Hotels and Towers at (022) 232-4343.

KOLKATA
Toy Shop

Toys Kemp, at 500 sq ft and with two floors, has emerged as the city's largest toy shop and boasts of products that haven't yet hit the local market. They include battery-operated two-seater cars with opening doors and lights that work, a musical piano with a microphone, 32 models of remote-controlled cars, robots that walk, even porcelain dolls and headphone-shaped walkie-talkies. With toys that cost as much as Rs 40,000 (like the cars), it's not likely to emerge as the favourite haunt for the parents. At Azimganj House 7, Camac Street.

DELHI
Interiors

Pergo, a Swedish design house specialising in laminate flooring, have opened a store in Gurgaon, the current nerve-centre of building activity. Pergo's USP is its moisture-resistant silicon sealant. What is more, it can be installed right on top on existing flooring (mosaic, marble, terrazzo) without glue or nails. Wood choices come in maple, beech, oak and the more tropical teak, and cost Rs 140 to 200 per sq ft, including installation charges. Don't worry about dropping cigarettes on the floor; there won't be any permanent burn marks. Visit 14, Regent Square, DLF City or call (124) 680-4088.
